The moment you've dreamed of! After an early breakfast, drive to park headquarters for registration with the Rwanda Development Board. You'll be assigned to one of Volcanoes' 12 habituated gorilla families based on fitness level - treks range from 1-6 hours. Enter the bamboo and hagenia forests on the slopes of the ancient volcanoes - this is Dian Fossey's legendary territory where she conducted groundbreaking gorilla research. The trails climb through multiple vegetation zones: cultivated foothills, bamboo forest, hagenia-hypericum woodland, and alpine meadows. When you locate your gorilla family, all effort dissolves into wonder. Spend one magical hour observing silverbacks, playful juveniles, nurturing mothers with infants - behaviors remarkably similar to our own. Return to your lodge on an emotional high. This morning offers enriching optional activities.
